Heel, toe, do-si-do — get ready for the 10th annual Community Barbecue and Barn Dance

The annual Community Barbecue and Barn Dance always attracts a colorful crowd. This year's event will be held Saturday at Wandering Creek Ranch and marks the event's 10th anniversary.

STEAMBOAT TODAY — Savory barbecue wafts through the rafters and children don their best cowboy and cowgirl garb for the Rotary of Steamboat Springs’ annual Community Barbecue and Barn Dance.

The 10th annual version of the hoedown-style, multigenerational event starts at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 at the Wandering Creek Ranch, 33850 Routt County Road 14. All proceeds from the evening benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Steamboat Springs and other Rotary charities.

The barbecue will feature a 4-H pig, raised by Lilly VanNess, and purchased at the Routt County Fair. It will be prepared and served with full barbecue fixings by the staff of Rex’s Catering.

Live music will be provided by the local band Flip Side with line-dancing and two-stepping to round out the evening.

“It’s a community party that has fun for the whole family,” said Ashley Kane, one of the Barn Dance Committee co-chairs along with Susie Wilkinson and Melissa Gibson. “I think it’s one of the only events where kids and adults can both go and have fun.”

For the kids, there will be activities hosted by the Boys & Girls Club, including a bouncy castle and the opportunity to check out a fire truck.

For the adults, the raffle will be the center of attention.

This year over $25,000 in prizes will be awarded, and 11 different “packages,” valued at anywhere from $1,500 to $4,500, will be given away to lucky winners.

As the event gains momentum each year, especially with over 600 attendees last year, the funds go toward supporting youth in the community, something Kane said Rotary feels strongly about.

“We are thrilled to be able to support a great community asset such as the Boys and Girls Club,” said Kane. “They’ve done something for this town that’s been needed for a long time,” she said. “It gives a place for kids to go, and it’s affordable. It really hits home for a lot of working parents."

Tickets to the Barn Dance are $35 for adults, $10 for children and $85 for a family of up to five members. Tickets can be purchased at the door on the night of the event or at Central Park Liquor.
