Hayden wrestlers compete well in Middle Park meet
December 8, 2010
Steamboat Springs — With just a small portion of its team, the Hayden High School wrestling squad placed a pair of wrestlers Saturday at a meet in Middle Park.
Cory Terry, at 119 pounds, went 4-1 on the day and finished sixth. Terry lost his fifth- and sixth-place match via a coin flip. Per Colorado High School Activities Association rules, wrestlers were allowed to wrestle only five matches in the day.
"He could have placed third if it was formatted a different way," Hayden coach Ty Camilletti said.
Sophomore Ryan Domson paced the Tigers on Saturday, finishing second at 171 pounds. Domson, who moved up three weight classes, lost in the finals to a wrestler from Holyoke.
Senior Scott Armbruster went 3-2 on the day but wasn't able to place. Kaiden Decker (112), Nick DeLuca (160) and Sam Penrose (135) wrestled but didn't win a match.
"I was pleased with the kids that were there," Camilletti said. "Our conditioning, with it being the first tournament, is a little low. It'll get better, trust me."
Hayden returns to the mat at 6 p.m. Friday with a dual at Grand Valley. The team then heads Saturday to a meet in Delta.
