Hayden volleyball falls in 3 sets to Rangely
September 29, 2012
Steamboat Springs — As of Friday night, the Hayden High School volleyball team was a squad on the upswing, celebrating back-to-back wins and hoping to bottle a little of the momentum it had built.
The Tigers even had a winning record in the league, 3-2.
As of Saturday, the team was again in search of answers, struggling to come to grips with a befuddling three-set sweep against Rangely.
The Panthers improved to 8-4 on the season so that now 3-9 Hayden lost wasn't so much the shock. How it lost, especially considering the team's play in the past two weeks, was.
Hayden fell, 25-14, 25-8, 26-24.
"I couldn't pinpoint what was going wrong, and that made it even more difficult," Hayden coach Christene Planansky said. "We just didn't play our game tonight. The Tigers were at their best in the third set. There, Kayla Dunkley, in her first game back from injury, served seven consecutive points to tie the set at 24. Rangely went on to win the set two points later, but on a frustrating night it was the bright spot.

"It just seemed like one mistake led to another and another," Planasky said. "It's hard to come off two big wins, then lose this one just when momentum was going our way."
