Hayden volleyball bounces back with home win
September 21, 2013
Steamboat Springs — The Hayden High School volleyball team didn't stay down long. A day after a deflating performance against Vail Christian, the Tigers roared Friday, sweeping aside Hotchkiss in three games.
Hayden improved to 5-3 on the season, winning, 25-19, 25-23, 25-19.
"That was probably one of the best games they've played as a team that I've seen," coach Christene Planansky said. "They communicated like none other. It was nonstop communication and working together. They had the best teamwork I've seen."
The Tigers got help from the top of the lineup all the way to the bottom. When Jessika Hockett took a kill to the face and was confined to the bench with a bloody nose, freshman Darian Murphy was called on to fill the role. The diminutive varsity rookie quickly became a target, but she didn't blink.
"It seemed the other team thought, 'She's small. Let's pick on her,'" Planansky said. "They kept going after her, but she passed everything they gave her. It was great."
Hayden gets back in action Tuesday with a trip to play Soroco.
