Martin has been town manager in Hayden for more than six years.

“I have completely enjoyed my time and will be forever grateful for the opportunity given to me by you the Town Council and the citizens to work together on so many good things,” Martin wrote in his resignation letter to Mayor Lorraine Johnson and the Hayden Town Council.

He is scheduled to begin his job in Camp Verde on Aug. 9. The town’s council approved the hiring of Martin at a meeting Wednesday. Camp Verde is about 85 miles north of Phoenix. The U.S. Census Bureau listed its population at 9,451 in 2000. Hayden has about 2,000 residents.

Martin said he wanted to get settled in the new town in time for his children to start school.

“I'm leaving a great place, hopefully going to a great place,” he said today.
