Hayden police searching for arson suspects
August 30, 2012
Steamboat Springs — Police in Hayden are hoping to find the person or persons who lit several rolls of toilet paper on fire late Wednesday night in the restrooms at Hayden Town Park.
The blazing rolls didn’t cause any structural damage to the bathrooms, but authorities aren’t laughing.
"We would really like to catch them," Hayden Police Chief Gordon Booco said, adding that police are working to find any witnesses to the fire. "I think arson would definitely be something to talk to the district attorney’s office about because under the right conditions, this could have turned into a structure fire."
Firefighters were called to the bathrooms on South Third Street just before midnight, but the fire was out before they arrived.
West Routt Fire Protection District Chief Bryan Rickman said the fire was reported by three juveniles who said they stomped out the burning rolls when they discovered them.
