Hayden lands top finishes at track meet

— Competing at the same track meet as Steamboat, Hayden picked up several top finishes.

The Tigers were led by Savannah Williams and Aubree Haskins. Both had second-place showings.

Williams was second in the girls 1,600, finishing in 5:58.28. Haskins, meanwhile, was second in the shot put, recording a toss of 34 feet, 6-1/2 inches.

For Haskins, the success came only after reverting to her form from a year ago. The defending Class 2A state champion in the event, she tried to out-do herself this year, switching from a gliding toss to a spinning toss. Midway through the season it wasn't resulting in better distances, however.

"She decided for this year to go back to the glide, to go back to what she was doing last year," Tigers coach Richard Bush said. "Her throw Saturday was about a foot longer than it's been this year. Hopefully she's on her way to another state championship."

Hayden had several other top-10 finishes. The girls sprint medley relay team of Millie Delaney, Heather Nereson, Becca Hoza and Laura Johnson was fourth with a time of 2:12:33. The boys 1,600 relay, with Jack Redmond, Ian Cadenhead, Jordan Ferrier and Liam Delaney, was eighth in 3:58.80. Thomas Rauch finished 10th in the high jump with a leap of 5-2.
