Hayden girls easily down West Grand, 64-15

Hayden High School girls basketball coach Eric Hamilton had a lofty goal of holding visiting West Grand to fewer than 20 points Friday.

By the end of the third quarter, it looked like the visiting Mustangs might have trouble breaking double digits.

Hayden used a full court press and stifling defense to run away with a 64-15 win.

The Tigers, now 8-2, created 43 turnovers, had 10 of 12 girls score and held the Mustangs to just four field goals, two of which came in the final two minutes.

"We had goals set tonight to hold them down," Hamilton said. "I thought the girls played great. It was a little sloppy, but for the most part, we played well."

From the outset, Hayden imposed its will. The Tigers had a 16-2 advantage after one quarter, a 33-3 lead at halftime and went into the final frame up 46-5.

Morgan Bell led all scorers with 10. Delanie VeDepo and Erin Koehler each had nine, while Lindsay Parrott and Sierra Ehlers had eight.

The win comes on the heels of Hayden suffering its worst defeat of the season, a 57-28 loss to Little Snake River, Wyo.

Friday was certainly a good way to get over that.

"We wanted to hold them under 20," VeDepo said. "It feels really good. We needed this. This helps us put that out of our mind."

Hayden next plays at 2:30 p.m. today at North Park.
