Hayden football trounces Rocky Mountain Lutheran for big win
September 14, 2012
Steamboat Springs — The Hayden High School football team got back on a winning track Friday night, rolling by Rocky Mountain Lutheran, 48-6.
The Tigers had several scoring plays called back early, but that didn't stop their offense. It only slowed it. They were ahead 28-0 after one quarter and 41-0 with five minutes remaining in the first half. By the time the teams headed for the locker rooms, the score was 48-0, and Hayden was well on its way to a comfortable win.
Eyes immediately shifted ahead a week, when 3-0 Soroco is set to come to town for Hayden's homecoming.
"We had a good night," coach Shawn Baumgartner said. "We definitely still have some work to do. Soroco looks really good."
Running back Dan Engle led the way for the Tigers, scoring a whooping five touchdowns. He converted on runs of 12, 13, 18 and 32 yards and also ran a 30-yard pass in for a score. He had 97 yards on six carries.
Quarterback Mark Doolin scored a touchdown of his own on the ground in addition to the pass to Engle. He finished 3-3 through the air for 84 yards.
Judd Magee notched Hayden's final touchdown.
