Hayden boys basketball starters get all-league honors

Luke Graham

— If the Hayden High School boys basketball team wasn’t considered a big favorite in the Class 2A Western Slope League next year, the announcement of the all-league team will help solidify that it will be.

The Tigers placed all five starters, four of which are juniors, on the all-league team.

Jorge Valdez, Mark Doolin and Paul Laliberte were named to the first team while Aaron Cramer and Hunter Johnston were named honorable mention.

Only Johnston is a senior.

“I’m pleased with what we have coming back,” Hayden coach Mike Luppes said. “I’m proud of those kids and their accomplishments.”

Valdez averaged a double-double this year in points and rebounds. Doolin led the team in total points, and Laliberte averaged 20 points per game.

Cramer was a glue guy, and Luppes called Johnston the leader of the team.

“Hunter is the only senior in that bunch, and we’re really going to miss him,” Luppes said. “He truly was the leader of our team.”
