Gardner Flanigan: Thank you, community

On behalf of the Steamboat Springs Soccer Club, I want to give a big thank you to the community of Steamboat Springs for your support and patience during our just completed 30th Steamboat Mountain Soccer Tournament.
Our organization understands the impact this event has on our community, and we truly appreciate the opportunity to have this event in our beautiful home town year after year.
The competition was amazing with more than 140 teams competing in age groups ranging from 10 to 18 years old. Of these, roughly 130 teams, traveling from nine different states, came here with their families to participate in the Steamboat Mountain Soccer Tournament.
The ability to hold this event in Steamboat Springs is important for our organization for multiple reasons. Our competitive soccer athletes and their families have the ability to compete in a best-in-class tournament environment while staying at home, saving additional travel costs and time.
Additionally, funds raised from this tournament go directly back in to our club programs to help underwrite our successful programs resulting in club participations fees, which we think are among the least expensive in the state of Colorado.
Of equal importance is the opportunity to share a family-friendly event of this size with the number of local businesses who generously help sponsor this event and the soccer community of Steamboat Springs.
We do recognize that the increased traffic, parking and people affect all members of the community and why we live here. But we think that the past four days, and the roughly 14,000 that visited our community this weekend, is win-win for our children and our soccer community, as well as our tourism-based economy, which helps us all.
Thank you so much to the number of businesses that donated to this event, the hundreds of volunteers who gave so much time, our tournament director Helen Brown and co-director Casey Barnett, but especially the residents of Steamboat Springs for your continued support of this great event.
