Freestyle skier Jeremy Cota lands in 2nd place in Japan

— Steamboat Springs freestyle moguls skier Jeremy Cota finished second on Friday in a World Cup event in Naeba, Japan.

Cota finished just behind Canada's Mikael Kingsbury for his third podium of the season. All have been second-place finishes.

"It is good to be close and hopefully one of these times I can take (Kingsbury) out," said Cota, who ranks second in the World Cup standings. "I am definitely happy with my overall ranking. I have a lot of momentum going into the next event."

Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club member Patrick Deneen was sixth.

Hannah Kearney won her 16th straight World Cup. Steamboat skiers Brittany Loweree and Eliza Outtrim were 11th and 14th, respectively.

The event resumes Sunday with dual moguls.
