Fletchers ski to 7th in Nordic combined World Cup event
March 10, 2013
The Germans dominated a Sunday sprint relay event at a World Cup Nordic combined event in Lahti, Finland, while the U.S. duo of Bryan Fletcher and Taylor Fletcher finished seventh.
The Steamboat Springs brothers were in eighth place after the jumping and, on the strength of Taylor Fletcher's stellar skiing, improved to seventh in the 15-kilometer cross-country race. Fletcher laid down the fastest time of any leg on the day in his 7.5K lap. The pair had the fifth fastest ski time overall.
The Germans took the top two spots, with the team of Johannes Rydzek and Eric Frenzel placing first, hanging on to a big lead gained in the jumping, and the duo of Tino Edelmann and Fabian Riessle placing second thanks to their overall fastest combined ski time.
A second U.S. pair featuring Adam Loomis and Bill Demong was 21st after the jump and moved up to 16th overall.
The World Cup now heads to Oslo, Norway, to wrap up the season. The event was the site of Bryan Fletcher's career-best performance a year ago, when he broke through to win the King's Cup, his first World Cup title.
