Fire nearly destroys garage
June 19, 2005
A fire nearly destroyed a garage near the base of Rabbit Ears Pass on Saturday night.
No one was in the garage, which was detached from an older farmhouse, and the owners were not home at the time of the fire, Steamboat Springs Fire Chief Bob Struble said.
At about 11:30 p.m., callers near Haymaker Golf Course reported seeing large flames coming from the stru–ct-ure, which was completely engulfed by the time firefighters from Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue arrived.
Although the garage is still standing, it was severely damaged and likely will have to be torn down, Struble said.
There were no vehicles in the garage during the fire. Struble was unsure about any other contents that might have been destroyed.
The Routt County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
