Delta overwhelms Steamboat girls
January 11, 2014
Steamboat Springs — Injuries and a strong showing by Delta did in the Steamboat Springs High School girls basketball team Saturday. The Sailors fell 50-30 on the road.
"I'm not disappointed in the girls at all," coach Mack Spitellie said. "We went from having seven seniors to three for this game, and that makes it a little rough. My young kids played hard, though."
Amaris Duryea scored eight points to lead the Sailors, who lost Maggie Crouch to an injury in the first quarter. Injuries kept several other key players out, as well.
Annie Osbourne and Savannah Bauknecht each scored six for Steamboat.
Steamboat trailed 20-10 at half, but Delta slowly expanded that lead to 15 by the end of the third quarter and 20 by the end of the game.
The loss drops Steamboat to 6-3 on the season.
