DeLancey gets his 1st hole-in-1 at golf fundraiser

— It may have cost Tom DeLancey $75 in drinks, but it was more than worth it.

DeLancey, who has been playing golf for three years, got his first career hole-in-one Sunday at Steamboat Golf Club during the Jeffrey Dye Foundation fundraiser.

The ace came on hole No. 3 from 114 yards out. DeLancey used a pitching wedge.

“I’m not really tuned in to my clubs that much,” DeLancey said. “I didn’t have a yardage on it, but a guy I was playing with had one of those scopes. That’s the club that I use when I get to that hole.”

The hole-in-one paced DeLancey’s team to a tie for first in the tournament.

DeLancey said as soon as he hit it, he knew it was a good shot. His ball hit short and left of the hole, took a bounce to the right and dropped.

“As soon as I teed it up and looked up, it looked really good,” he said. “Then when it went in, we were all jumping up and down like a bunch of young girls.”

DeLancey plays golf several times a week and said the hole-in-one only helped pique his interest in the game.

“It was a nice shot,” he said, “but there was a lot of luck involved.”
