Steamboat Springs — Monday is the last day community members can apply for an open seat on the Steamboat Springs School Board.
School Board President Brian Kelly said Sunday afternoon that the district still has one applicant for the District 2 seat.
Sam Jones, a financial adviser and founder of the Steamboat Springs Challenge Fund, submitted a letter of interest to the board last month.
The School Board plans to interview the candidates for the seat in public no later than Jan. 16.
District 2 covers all of the school district’s southern boundary and a small section within city limits. With the exception of Tree Haus, residents who vote in Precincts 18, 7 and 6 live in the district.
Applicants can call the district office Monday at 970-879-1530 with questions about applying for the position or to determine whether they reside within District 2.
Last year, Jones and a group of local parents launched the Challenge Fund, which has raised more than $53,000 for the district’s two elementary schools.
"I care very much about the quality of Steamboat’s schools not only for the obvious benefit to our students and children but also as an economic anchor in our community," Jones wrote in his letter of interest for the seat.
