Cyclist retrieved from Spring Creek Road

— Routt County Search & Rescue crews retrieved a Steamboat Springs bicyclist Tuesday who sustained a head injury on Spring Creek Trail.

Edward Ryberg, 15, apparently lost control of his bike near the second bridge up the road, Steamboat Ambulance Capt. Smokey Slaven said Wednesday. He may have been unconscious for a time, he said.

"When we got to him, he was feeling a little disoriented," Slaven said.

Others using the trail came upon him, including an emergency room nurse, he said. They went for help. Search and Rescue responded with its four-wheel-drive vehicle and transported him to Routt Memorial Hospital.

There, Ryberg was treated for a closed head injury, observed overnight and released Wednesday morning, hospital spokeswoman Christine Mckelvie said.
