Craig man arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder

Police arrested a 48-year-old man Sunday morning on suspicion of first-degree murder in connection with the death of another man in downtown Craig.
The Craig Police Department said its officers responded to an ambulance assist call for an unknown problem at about 12:20 a.m. in the 400 block of Yampa Avenue. Officers who responded to the call found Armando Shane Arrendondo, 43, the victim of an apparent assault.
Officers administered first aid until an ambulance crew arrived, at which point Arrendondo was transported to The Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Craig police arrested Leroy Fief, 48, at the scene and booked him into Moffat County Jail on suspicion of first-degree murder.
The case is being investigated by the Craig Police Department with help from the Moffat County Sheriff's Office, the Moffat County Coroner's Office, the Colorado State Patrol and the 14th Judicial District Attorney's Office.
Fourteenth Judicial District Attorney Brett Barkey said Sunday that more information would not be available until Monday.
Craig police are asking anyone who witnessed suspicious activity or a possible confrontation at about midnight Sunday near the parking lot in the 400 block of Yampa Avenue to call Cmdr. Bill Leonard at 970-826-2367.
