Community Cultivation celebrates greenhouse with open house
August 27, 2013
Steamboat Springs — Community Cultivation, a program of Yampa Valley Autism Program, is holding an open house from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday to celebrate the construction of a solar greenhouse on land donated by Rocky Mountain Youth Corps.
Refreshments will be provided by Ciao Gelato. The greenhouse is located at the end of the Rocky Mountain Youth Corps driveway, which can be reached from Twentymile Road or 13th Street by turning down the dirt driveway across from the gas station.
Community Cultivation is a horticulture program for youths with disabilities or a part of at-risk populations. It addresses vocational, social and life development needs, according to a news release.
The program operates raised beds at the Yampa Valley Botanic Park in addition to the greenhouse.
“The clients plan, plant, tend and harvest their produce, selling at our local farmers market and restaurants and donating some to LIFT-UP,” the release states. “With the addition of the new greenhouse, the program may be expanded to almost year-round.”
