Class notes: O’Leary-Brennan awarded Strong scholarship prize

Steamboat Springs — Andrew O'Leary-Brennan was selected to receive the Strong Insurance Scholarship for 2010. O'Leary-Brennan is the sixth recipient of the scholarship, created in 2005 to honor and encourage college-bound students faced with perceptual or communicative disorders who have taken steps to overcome the challenge.
Paul M. Jansen graduates from University of Wyoming
Paul M. Jansen, of Steamboat Springs, was a member of the University of Wyoming's spring Class of 2010. He earned a Master of Science degree.
Book-writing class starts July 12 at Alpine Campus

Registration under way for Yampatika summer camps
Registration is open for Yampatika's 2010 Summer Camps. Yampatika is offering weeklong programs at the Environmental Learning Center at the Legacy Ranch for children ages 5 to 14. Yampatika's programs provide children hands-on opportunities to explore their natural surroundings and are designed to inspire environmental stewardship through education. Camps include Wilderness Pioneers 1 and 2 for ages 12 to 14, which teach map, compass and GPS skills, as well as wilderness ethics and Leave No Trace practices.
Wilderness pioneers students experience a pack-in, pack-out field trip at the end of the week. There also will be an optional overnight experience for junior naturalists ages 9 to 11. Education Fund Board in need of board members
The Steamboat Springs Education Fund is seeking people to serve on the Education Fund Board, the Educational Excellence Commission and the Capital/Technology Commission. Terms are for two years. The Steamboat Springs Education Fund Board is a nonprofit, independent corporation that administers proceeds of the half-cent city sales tax to expand resources and enhance student achievement in the three Routt County school districts. Children's book club kits available for rent at library
Local children can start their own Kids' Book Clubs with Bud Werner Memorial Library's Book Buzz Kits. Each kit contains eight paperback copies of books and discussion questions for a variety of titles for boys and girls ages 7 to 12. Kits can be checked out for six weeks. They can be reserved as many as three months in advance by calling the children's library at 970-879-0240, ext. 314.
