Clark man dies after crashing ATV

A 52-year-old Clark man died Thursday evening after the ATV he was driving crashed on Routt County Road 62 about two miles northwest of Clark.

Routt County Coroner Rob Ryg identified the man as John Robert Main.

Routt County Undersheriff Ray Birch said it appeared Main was alone when his ATV went off the road and he was ejected, causing serious injuries. A passerby discovered the accident and found Main unconscious and not breathing. Firefighters from North Routt Fire Protection District and Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue tried to resuscitate Main as he was taken by ambulance to Yampa Valley Medical Center.

Ryg said an autopsy was scheduled for this morning to help determine whether something such as a medical issue might have caused Main to crash.

Ryg said he did not know Main but was told Main was a homeowner in the Clark area and was a sculptor.

According to Steamboat Today archives, Main was married to Steamboat native Kathaleen Diane Main, who died Nov. 15, 2008, after a yearlong battle with cancer.
