Chamber proposes moving street dance

Tamera Manzanares

Organizers of the popular Colorado Days street dance and dinner want to move the festivities from Walnut Street to Third Street.

The Hayden Town Board on Thursday will consider a request from the Hayden Chamber of Commerce to close Third Street from 7 to 10:30 p.m. for the dance July 22. A bratwurst dinner will be held before the dance in Town Park.

The Chamber also has applied for a special event permit to sell 3.2-beer at the event.

The dance previously has been held on Walnut Street from about 9 p.m. to midnight. There typically was a two-hour gap between the end of the dinner, held in the little park on Jefferson Avenue, and the dance.

Chamber members are hoping to attract more people by scheduling the events back to back in the Town Park area, which also will provide more parking and allow for more efficient set-up and clean-up, events coordinator Vicki Morgan said.

“We’re just trying to make it more family friendly,” she said.

Also Thursday, the Town Board will discuss whether to make improvements to the town’s water system during construction of the Valley View Business Park at Routt County Road 37 and Crandall Avenue.

Developers plan to break ground on the project soon.

There may be an opportunity to improve water pressure in the Hospital Hill area and also loop water sources to increase fire flow pressure and ensure a backup source for the business park, Town Manager Russ Martin said.

Board members will decide whether the benefits to the town will be worth the cost of making the improvements now.

The board’s regular meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. at Hayden Town Hall. The meeting will follow a 7 p.m. work session.
