Car spins out on ‘black ice’ Friday morning on Rabbit Ears Pass

Steamboat Springs — Motorists leaving Steamboat to travel over Rabbit Ears Pass to Silverthorne and Denver on Friday morning need to proceed at moderate speed and keep an eye out for the first icy conditions of the season.
A Colorado State Patrol trooper was called out at 7:29 a.m. to respond to a report of a one-car accident in which the vehicle "spun out on black ice," according to police radio traffic.
After light showers overnight, the temperature on Rabbit Ears Pass at 7:35 a.m. Friday was 30 degrees, according to an interactive weather map maintained by the National Weather Service in Grand Junction.
The overnight forecast on Rabbit Ears for Friday night into Saturday calls for a 10 percent chance of light snow and a low of 15 degrees.
