C-130 practices approach at airport
April 20, 2000
Steamboat Springs — The four-engine military transport aircraft that came in low and fast over Steamboat Springs shortly before noon Thursday was a C-130 flying out of Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs.
The prop plane was one of six planes currently flying training missions out of Peterson.
The pilot radioed ahead to announce his intentions of making a practice VOR approach at the runway. The VOR is a navigational aid situated on top of Emerald Mountain.
The plane made a final approach to the runway at Steamboat Springs Airport/Bob Adams Field, but did not land, flaring away to the southwest and leaving the vicinity of the airport.
