Business briefs: SmartWool veteran Flanagan leaves for new position
December 8, 2012
Longtime SmartWool employee Gardner Flanagan, who was in on the early days of the company in 1997, announced this week that he has accepted a new position in Steamboat Springs with Healthcare Informatics Specialists Consulting Group.
Flanagan resigned his position as channel marketing manager (lifestyle/catalog/online) with SmartWool effective at the end of the month.
Flanagan wrote in an email that when he began his career with SmartWool, he was the seventh full-time employee. At the time, the company did less than $5 million in sales. Today, he is one of 106 employees and the company does more than $120 million in sales.
"It will be a brand that will continue to grow and prosper and is in good hands," Flanagan wrote. "It has been a fun and eventful run here at SmartWool. I take great pride in my role growing this."
"SmartWool has been a great experience, but this new opportunity will allow me more time to spend with Millie and the kids while offering long-term stability," Flanagan said.
Brewery's production to start in spring at facility
Butcherknife Brewing Co. expects to begin producing beer in a new facility on the west side of Steamboat in spring 2013 after observing groundbreaking ceremonies Wednesday.
The company's owners are Nate Johansing and Mark Fitzgerald. They expect to produce 1,000 barrels in the first year of operations.
