Broncos, Elway reach out to Manning

Denver — Remember those boring Broncos offseasons when there was nothing other than a stormy feud between the new young head coach and the Pro Bowl quarterback?
The events Friday included charter flights across the country and back again; a surreal SUV ride from Centennial Airport to the Broncos' headquarters; a potential franchise-altering meeting between superstar quarterback Peyton Manning and the John Elway-led Broncos; the sobering reality that Manning is here to replace the league's cultural sensation that is Tim Tebow; and mood-dampening news from the NFL's New York office that three players, including star linebacker D.J. Williams, had received lengthy suspensions for positive performance-enhancing substance tests.
This all made the McJaygate saga of three years ago between Josh McDaniels and Jay Cutler seem like little more than a low-rated soap opera.
