Training on Wednesday for volunteer English teachers

A training for people who would like to volunteer as in-home English teachers for immigrants and refugees will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Bogue Hall, Room 200, on the Colorado Mountain College campus.

The program is facilitated by Communidad Integrada (Integrated Community). Twenty volunteers are enrolled in the program. They teach English for an hour and a half a week, for three months to English learners from Mexico, Africa and Central and South America.

No foreign language or teaching experience is necessary. Call 846-5521.

Bud Werner library needs help with book sale

The Bud Werner Memorial Library is looking for volunteers to help with the library’s annual second-hand book sale. Volunteers are needed June 16 to 18 to help move boxes, unpack books and sell. The sale will be held June 18 at the Depot Art Center. All proceeds benefit Bud Werner Library’s programs and services. Call 879-0240.

Drop-in pilates class for students on Wednesdays

Steamboat Pilates will be offering a drop-in summer mat class for middle school and high school students at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays. The class will use FitBalls, BOSU balls, bands and cords for balance, strength and flexiblility. The cost is $5 per student. Call the studio at 879-6788 or stop by the Old West Building.

Historic Routt County holding an open house

Historic Routt County! will hold an open house from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Maxwell Building in Steamboat Springs. A silent auction also is being held, featuring watercolors of area historic buildings by former Routt County resident Marty Alexandroff. The paintings will be on tour, appearing in various businesses throughout Routt County, from Friday to July 5. Bids are being taken online at Bills will be accepted through September, with the winners announced in October. All auction proceeds will benefit Historic Routt County! Call 875-1305.

Ranch Rodeo entry

Entry forms for the July 3 Ranch Rodeo are available at Soda Creek Western Mercantile and Mountain Valley Bank. The Ranch Rodeo is a part of Cowboy Round-Up Days. The rodeo will be limited to the first 20 teams. Call 879-3146.

Figure skating club meeting is today

Steamboat Springs Figure Skating Club’s general membership meeting and election is at 11 a.m. today at Howelsen Ice Arena. Nominations will be held, followed by elections for three positions on the Board of Directors.

SSFSC is seeking community members with leadership skills to volunteer for board positions. The meeting will continue with information and registration for summer skating, and an update on the 2005-06 skating season. All interested are invited to attend. Refreshments will be served.

SSFSC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the development of Steamboat’s artistic athletes. Call 879-7785.
