Break-ins, thefts reported in downtown Steamboat
May 4, 2011
Steamboat Springs — Several downtown businesses were broken into early Wednesday, police say.
Just before 5 a.m., officers responded to an intrusion alarm at Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant, 628 Lincoln Ave. Steamboat Police Department Sgt. Rich Brown said a window was broken but it appeared no one had entered the business.
Within a 40-minute period, Brown said, officers responded to several other businesses where intrusion alarms were triggered. By Wednesday afternoon, police had received seven reports of attempted or successful break-ins at downtown businesses.
Brown did not want to name the other businesses because of an ongoing investigation, which is being handled by Detective Nick Bosick. Bosick was unavailable to comment Wednesday evening. Brown said items were taken from businesses, but he would not elaborate.
