Bowling alley looking for leaguers

— Wayne and Jane Garrison are looking for a few good bowlers.
The owners of the local Snow Bowl bowling alley said there are still a few spots open for individuals or teams that might want to bowl this winter in organized leagues. Most of the leagues began bowling last week, but the owners said it is not too late to get involved.
“This is not normal,” Wayne said about the openings. “Especially on our Wednesday night non-smoking league. This is a real good opportunity for bowlers to get into the non-smoking league, which is always full.”
The Wednesday night mixed league, which meets once a week at 6 p.m., has been one of the more popular spots for some time. This year, however, a couple of teams failed to show up on opening night, making the spots available. The league is in search of two, four-person teams and roughly eight bowlers. Teams must be made up of two women and two men and it is a handicapped league.
Garrison said he is also attempting to fill spots in his Wednesday afternoon ladies league. That league is made up of three women’s teams and currently has about 30 bowlers. The handicapped league can have as many as 36 bowlers.
Wayne would also like to form a Wednesday night men’s league that would meet at 8:15 p.m. and consist of teams of three bowlers. Once again, it would be a handicapped league meeting once a week.
“We had a good turnout for all of our leagues,” Wayne said. “We just had a few things pop up at the last minute that we didn’t plan on. That’s why we have some openings.”
The bowling center has nine leagues running Monday through Friday. There is also a Sunday night league that will begin in November and run through April.
There are currently mixed leagues on Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights. There are also women’s leagues on Tuesday evening and Wednesday at noon. The men meet every Thursday and there is a football league on Monday night. The Garrisons estimate that there are more than 300 bowlers currently in leagues in Steamboat Springs.
