Blizzard forecast causes Steamboat Springs prep sports cancellations
April 9, 2013
Steamboat Springs — The clash will have to wait another day.
Because of Tuesday's anticipated storm, the Battle Mountain-Steamboat Springs girls soccer game was moved to Wednesday.
The game will be played at 6 p.m. at Battle Mountain.
"You learn that the key component to springtime is just the ability to adjust and adapt with the weather," Steamboat coach Rob Bohlmann said.
The delay postpones one of spring sports' biggest games.
The two Western Slope League rivals enter the game with the Eastern Division lead on the line.
Battle Mountain is 6-1-1 in league play while Steamboat is 4-1-1. The winner of the division will play the No. 2 seed from the west, and the Eastern division No. 2 seed will play the top seed from the west. The advantage comes with the top seed playing at home.
In late March, the two teams played to a 1-all tie that couldn't be decided after two overtime periods.
Bohlmann said the postponement shouldn't give one team an advantage. After looking at the first game of the year, in which the Sailors had the run of play, he said there is one common factor:
"I think it really comes down to a consistent pattern for us," he said. "It's the efficiency in the attacking third. We have to find the right balance of urgency and poise."
Girls lacrosse postponed
The Steamboat Springs High School girls lacrosse team also was supposed to play Tuesday at Summit, but that game has been moved to April 30.
The team next plays at 4 p.m. Friday at Grand Junction. Its next home game is at 4 p.m. April 16 against Grand Junction.
