Awards party planned for Nov. 9 at Steamboat Grand

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — Want to know who in town sports the best mustache or mullet? Or how about where to find the best burger or cocktail?

All the results from the 2017’s Best of the Boat Contest will be made public with the release of the winter issue of Steamboat Living magazine, or better yet, people can attend the Best of the Boat Awards Party from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9 at The Steamboat Grand and get the results live.

"The people of Steamboat have spoken," said Swift Digital multimedia developer Tony Dilger, who spearheaded this year's contest. "It was the project's best turnout yet."

In all, 105,739 votes were cast in seven categories and 143 sub-categories, including shopping, dining, food specialties, home and garden, business and community, professionals and The Lighter Side. When all was said and done, the contest acknowledged 1,684 different businesses in town, with top three accolades bestowed upon 441 winners.

More importantly, the seventh running of the event lured a record 5,872 voters to this year's polls to express their opinions about all things Steamboat — nearly half of town's population, eclipsing last year's mark by nearly 1,000 voters.

"It was a resounding success this year, taking our community's pulse on what businesses, people and more rise to top of the crop in Steamboat," said Steamboat Living advertising director Robert Philips. "It truly show what a great town we all live in."

With the entire month of August to visit the contest site, voters selected a top three in each category, with write-in answers tabulated to ensure no one went missing. For their efforts, voters were eligible to win one of two local shopping sprees to area businesses.

"With more than 5,000 people casting votes, the Best of the Boat contest enjoys one of the highest participation rates of any project in the community," said Steamboat Pilot & Today publisher Suzanne Schlict, adding the contest also provides great marketing mileage for the winners. "For the businesses that place, it provides well-deserved recognition. But more importantly, it provides a unique value proposition that businesses can use to market and brand their businesses throughout the year. It's a triple win for area residents, businesses and our organization."
