Ben A. Monger (1912-2005)

Former Steamboat Springs resident Ben A. Monger died May 7, 2005, at his home in Grand Junction. He was 93.

Ben was born April 27, 1912, in Steamboat to John Phillip and Adeline Johnson Monger. He was raised in Steamboat, where he graduated high school.

Ben married Lois Elberta Jackson on Aug. 27, 1932, in Craig. She passed away March 17, 1995, in Grand Junction.

Monger, who was a rancher and building contractor, lived for many years in Grand Junction. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking. Ben was a member of First Christian Church in Grand Junction.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; Frank Monger; Lloyd Monger; Vauna Monger; and Elizabeth Wheeler.

Ben is survived by a son, Maurice Dale Monger of Grand Junction; two daughters, Darline M. Lampshire of Phoenix, Ariz., and Benita Carrell of Broken Arrow, Okla.; a brother, John L. Monger of Steamboat; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held May 12, 2005, at Callahan Edfast Mortuary in Grand Junction. A graveside service was May 13, 2005, at Elk Mountain Cemetery.
