Bandits improve league mark with big wins

— The Steamboat Bandits U-14 soccer team improved its record to 5-1 Oct. 14 with a 5-0 win over Montrose.

Alec Nelson scored two goals in the game. Nathan Rothe, Danny Carlson and Jordan Whitacre also scored in the contest.

The victory came on the heels of the team’s first loss of the season to Rifle-Newcastle. Steamboat lost that game in a heartbreaking 5-4 contest on Sept. 30.

In addition to the regular league games, Steamboat also played in the Vail Valley Soccer Tournament on Oct. 6 and 7.

The Bandits missed the playoffs by one goal in the point system. They recorded come-from-behind wins against Palisade (3-2) and Aspen (2-1). In the Aspen game, Mike Litzau scored twice in the final five minutes to give the Bandits the win.
