Ballot order set for Steamboat Springs City Council seats

Jack Weinstein

— Candidates for the Steamboat Springs City Council now know the order voters will see their names when casting ballots in November.

City Clerk Julie Franklin pulled names out of a box to determine the ballot order during an informational forum Thursday afternoon at City Hall.

Eight candidates are vying for four seats on the City Council. The order is District 1: Rich Levy and Scott Myller. District 2: Bart Kounovsky. District 3: Sonja Macys and Dave Moloney. At-large: John Fielding, Kevin Kaminski and Daryl Levin.

City Council members Meg Bentley (District 2) and Jon Quinn (District 3) are not seeking re-election. Terms expire in 2013 for City Council President Cari Hermacinski, Walter Magill and Kenny Reisman.

Before the candidates' names were drawn, Hermacinski and City Manager Jon Roberts gave short presentations.

Hermacinski discussed the City Council's role in the community. She said its members are part-time citizen legislators who direct the city manager in the day-to-day operations of Steamboat.
