Avalanche watch in effect for Steamboat area until noon Thursday
February 29, 2012
Steamboat Springs — The Colorado Avalanche Information Center has issued an avalanche watch for the Steamboat Springs area through noon Thursday. The local avalanche danger has been heightened because of recent snowfall and winds. A winter storm expected to impact the Steamboat area through Thursday also will add to the increased likelihood of natural and human-triggered avalanches, according to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center.
The CAIC cautioned Wednesday afternoon that the avalanche watch could be upgraded to an avalanche warning Thursday if snow and wind forecasts hold true. An avalanche warning means natural avalanches are likely and human-triggered avalanches are very likely.
