¤ An opening reception for SummerArt 2005 will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Eleanor Bliss Center for the Arts at the Depot Art Center, 1001 13th St. The exhibit will be on display through Aug. 26. The gallery is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Call 879-9008.

¤ An opening reception for “Recent Works by David Winters, woodworker, and Karen G. Scholman, photographer” will be held in the Small Works Gallery at the Depot Art Center, 1001 13th St. The gallery is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. ¤ An opening reception for an exhibit of work by Jerry Palen will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Wild Horse Gallery. The gallery is in the Steamboat Sheraton Resort and is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Call 879-7660.

¤ A gallery talk with Ben Mitchell, director of exhibitions and programs at the Nicolaysen Art Museum in Casper, Wyo., and artists from SummerArt 2005 will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Depot Art Center, 1001 13th St. Call 879-9008.

Art opportunities

¤ The Steamboat Springs Arts Council is accepting proposals from emerging and established artists for private or small group shows in 2006. Individual artists or small groups from Colorado and Wyoming are eligible. Work exhibited must have been completed since January 2004 and may not have been exhibited previously at the Depot Art Center. All mediums are eligible. Request an application with complete guidelines from beth@steamboatspringsarts.com or send a self-addressed business envelope to SSAC/Private shows, P.O. Box 774284, Steamboat Springs, CO 80477. Proposals must be received by Aug. 1. Notification of acceptance will be sent by Sept 1.

¤ The Steamboat Springs Arts Council is calling for artists in the Strada D’Arte as part of the third annual Beaux Arts Festival to be held Aug. 4, 5 and 6. Strada D’Arte is a traditional form of Italian street painting. Artists will design and decorate a concrete square using ground pastel chalk. This is a full-day project. A meeting for anyone interested in participating will be held at 5:30 p.m. July 5 at the Depot Art Center, 1001 13th St. Call 879-9038.

¤ Volunteers are needed for Art in the Park, July 9 and 10, to help set up, staff merchandise tent and clean up. Call 879-9008, ext. 104.
