6 arrested for DUI during holiday

— Six people in Routt County rang in the new year Tuesday night at the Routt County Jail after being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Steamboat Springs Police Department officers arrested four people, and the Colorado State Patrol and the Routt County Sheriff’s Office each arrested one person.

Steamboat Police Sgt. Rich Brown said officers dealt with a lot of drunken people Tuesday night.

“For the most part, everyone was pretty happy and well behaved and having a good time, but there were some people who were the complete opposite that we dealt with,” Brown said. “It was very busy.”

Three of the Steamboat police DUI arrests and both of the CSP and Sheriff’s Office arrests involved people who had wrecked their cars or slid off the road, but they were not hurt.

In other news, a man went to Yampa Valley Medical Center on Wednesday and reported being assaulted the previous night behind a bar at Sixth Street and Lincoln Avenue. A woman also was arrested for fighting outside a bar at Seventh Street and Lincoln Avenue.
