26-year-old died from heart attack during Steamboat vacation
April 24, 2013
Steamboat Springs — Tests have confirmed that a 26-year-old woman who died March 20 in Steamboat Springs during a ski vacation had a heart attack.
Katelyn Lynch was vacationing in Steamboat with her brother from Minnesota and another brother who lives in Fort Collins. The brothers found her dead in her hotel room.
Routt County Coroner Rob Ryg said Lynch likely had a heart issue for a long time, but it had gone undetected. Lynch had vasculitis, the inflammation of blood vessels that support the heart.
He said the death was unexpected, and the family was shocked to learn the cause.
Ryg said Lynch had gone skiing for the first time the day prior to her death, and the exertion could have worsened her heart condition.
