2018 Winter Carnival button art submissions deadline is Thursday

The Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club is now taking submissions for the 2018 Winter Carnival button artwork from all local artists under the age of 18. This year’s theme is “Lighting the Flame” in honor of Steamboat’s Winter Olympians and the upcoming Olympics.

Any art medium is accepted, and bright colors are highly encouraged. Buttons should be designed in a circle the size of an 8.5-by-11-inch piece of paper or larger. Designs should be  submitted to wintercarnivalbuttonart.com by Thursday.

Children invited to pay library fines with food donations



During the month of December, kids can pay off library fines while helping local families in need by participating in the Bud Werner Memorial Library’s annual Food for Fines program. For every can or box of food kids bring to the Kids’ Desk, the library will waive $2 of overdue fines. All food will be donated to LiftUp of Routt County food bank. This program is for kid and student, 17 and younger, accounts listed under the child’s name, during December only, and it not valid for replacement fees. Steamboat’s Tread of Pioneers Museum to be closed Thursday



The Tread of Pioneers Museum in downtown Steamboat Springs will be closedThursday. It will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24 and Saturday, Nov. 25.

Online Community Agriculture Alliance food market expands

The Community Agriculture Alliance has expanded hours for its online food market at caamarket.org. The site, which is managed by CAA, allows local producers the opportunity to list products and customers can shop online.

The site is open for weekly ordering from noon Monday through midnight Wednesday.  Orders are picked up at CAA offices, at 141 Ninth St. in downtown Steamboat, from 9 am. to 5:30 p.m. Friday.

The market is also offering new same day pick up with a limited number of local products available for ordering and pick up the same day. Current same day pick up products include farm fresh eggs, micro greens, local pork, lamb and beef, honey, locally roasted coffee, tea, wheat berries and more.

Program expands eligibility for cervical cancer screenings

Northwest Colorado Health is now offering free cervical cancer screenings and diagnostic services to women ages 21 to 64 through the Women’s Wellness Connection. Eligibility for these services previously began at age 40.

To qualify, women must meet financial qualifications, be in the U.S. legally and have limited or no health insurance. Advocates seeks volunteers to serve as victim advocates

Advocates Building Peaceful Communities is recruiting volunteers to become victim advocates to provide on-call services for the 24-hour crisis line. Thirty hours of training is provided and will take place in early February based on participant schedules.

Advocates is a nonprofit agency providing free and confidential services to victims of domestic and sexual violence in Routt County. Those who are interested may call Molly or Diane at 970-879-2034 for more information.
