— Geoff and Lisel Petis have always had a charitable side.

As a young girl, Lisel Petis held bake sales to raise money for Unicef.

“Ever since then, I’ve always been giving,” she said.

Geoff Petis has always been generous with his time, but he said it was his wife who taught him to be generous with his money.

“Lisel always had a bigger heart, and mine has caught up,” he said.

The couple, who work as attorneys in Steamboat Springs, recently formed the Petis Law Community Impact Foundation nonprofit organization with the goal of raising more money for worthy causes.

The foundation will be funded with a percentage of what the Petis Law Firm earns. In addition, the foundation will hold two fundraisers each year.

The kickoff fundraiser is at 5:30 p.m. July 29 at Cloverdale Farm at 31900 Routt County Road 22. The cost is $25 for adults, $10 for children under 17 and free for children younger than 5.

The fundraiser will be a pig roast with farm-to-table side dishes prepared by Patrick Ayres, who will be the executive chef at the Cloverdale Restaurant opening in Steamboat. Tickets can be purchased in advance at http://www.tinyurl.com/petislawfoundation.

Twice each year, the foundation will be distributing grants to local nonprofits whose missions align with those of the Petis Law Firm. Those are personal injury, business and real estate.

“I chose my area of focus because they are personal to me,” Geoff Petis said.

The Petises said their goal is to leave the community in a better place than when they found it by contributing to groups that protect and support the wellbeing of those injured by others, that promote the sustainable enrichment of the housing market and that encourage social equity and economic growth within local businesses and nonprofits.
