Jan Stalcup: Bond issue good idea

I was excited to learn about the upcoming bond issue and mill levy override to build new facilities for K-12 students. This is a great economical, cost-effective, economy-of-scale way to approach all the remodels, upgrades and new facilities needed here.

Previously, I served 12 years on the Cheyenne, Wyoming, School Board. I volunteered for two of the facility master plan committees here just to see what your process would look like and how you would manage the election.

I have been impressed with the process, the dedication of staff, board and community members who served on these committees and the thoroughness of discussions for each of the many possible scenarios. These scenarios ranged from simple to complex, partial to complete with lots of opportunities for community input.

The proposed plan is comprehensive, involves students from K-12, addresses traffic safety at all locations, upgrades each facility for better learning environments, includes preschool for all and provides adequate spaces for art, music and P. E. not to mention enhanced athletic facilities and auditoriums.

I will be voting “yes” on 3A and 3B and encourage others to do the same when you receive your ballot in the mail. If you have questions, you can go to yes2steamboatschools.com for answers.
