Laura Case: Environmentalism and hypocrisy

Dear Editor,

While I applaud the students and their writing abilities, my family and I will be turning every single light on in our house, as has been our tradition for many years now. When the many environmental hypocrites that fly their private jets to international sustainability meetings actually walk the walk, then I will contemplate doing something besides recycling.

There are many examples of the environmentalists telling us how to live while none of their preaching applies to them. I will only go with the one with the most hot air.

Al Gore owns several mega, energy-consuming houses, one of which is a $9 million property in Montecito, California (altitude, 185 feet). I wonder if the seas were really rising as he lectures, why would he buy a property 185 feet above sea level? Seems like a house on higher ground would be more realistic. His carbon footprint (if one really believes that this would be a factor in being a better steward of our planet…) is equivalent to 20 times the average homeowner. That is far more than my family will ever use, even if we were to become the biggest energy hogs on this planet.
