Dave Peregoy: Historical atrocities

Recently David Moss commented on remarks made by President Obama regarding the history of Christianity. I have a different view on those remarks.

I think the president was merely trying to get all of us to stop and think about how many times throughout history horrible things have happened in the name of religion. To overlook those atrocities is to deny history.

So now we have the Islamic State doing horrible things in the name of the Muslim religion. To call them Muslim is to legitimize their actions considering that the vast majority of Muslims worldwide are peaceful.

This is another Middle Eastern conflict we have no business sticking our noses in. This is a conflict that should be policed by other countries in the region. These interventions on our part have never ended well in the past, and there is no reason to believe this one will either.

For those on the political side that believe we can fix everything with never-ending war, I have a question for you. Why not have “boots on the ground” in Africa where Boko Haram have killed far more than ISIS?

The answer is easy: oil. As a country, we have spent far too much and lost too many American lives on military campaigns in places where oil is the primary motive and have little to show for it. At some point we should have the wisdom to say, “Enough.”
