Halloween Stroll brings out creative costumes
Steamboat Springs — Deciding what to dress up as for Halloween may be the toughest part of the holiday.
Walking down Mainstreet Friday night, it seemed like no one had a problem finding inspiration for some of the most creative costumes yet.
There were the usual ghosts, goblins, princesses, pirates, and witches.
But one family in particular dressed together in theme. Their source of inspiration? Their one year old baby boy, Paxton Haight, dressed cute as ever in a little lion costume. The theme — Wizard of Oz. They had the “Yellow Brick Road,” Dorthy and her dog Totto, Glenda the Good Witch, the Wicked Witch of the West, the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and even “The Wizard.”
“We knew the family would be getting together for this and we really planned our costumes around his,” Mother of the little lion, Camilla Haight.
Her niece, Meagan Chase came all the way from Jacksonville Florida to take part in the family festivities.
“We don’t have anything like this where I am from,” Chase, dressed as Glenda the Good Witch said. “This is really neat to see the whole community that comes out to take part in it.”
For Olga Chase, the grandmother who dressed as the Scarecrow, her favorite part of the night was before the family even came downtown.
“The preparation when everyone is getting ready is my favorite part,” she said. “It’s so fun because you get to imagine what will happen as the night goes on.”
The event will be one the family dressed in character will remember for years to come.
“I love it,” said Haight. “Seeing all of the creative costumes and the people. It’s a lot of fun for all of us.”
