I am Nikki Knoebel, the mayor of Oak Creek, and I am running for Routt County treasurer and public trustee. I will bring strong financial skills and government expertise to this office.

The town of Oak Creek has made great strides financially with an approximately $3 million dollar annual budget since I was elected mayor, and the town’s yearly audits show that operations are compliant and conform to governmental and generally accepted accounting standards.

During my tenure as mayor, the town has also successfully leveraged and managed grants and other outside funding totaling about $2 million for the creation of new trails and parks, the development of a community recreation plan and programs, upgrades to our water and sewer infrastructure, capital improvements planning and support of local law enforcement.

I have been a loyal employee at Catamount Ranch & Club for over 14 years. I am the special events manager and am responsible for a $500,000 budget annually. Of the many tasks I perform, one is to plan and organize numerous multi-faceted events each summer with budgets ranging from $5,000 to $75,000 per event. This requires strong organizational skills with the distinct ability to multitask.

Volunteer community service is important to me. I am the vice president of the Routt County United Way board and am the chair for the LiveWell Northwest Colorado Coalition. These organizations serve our local families, organizations and communities with basic needs and healthy lifestyles. Community service and volunteerism are an investment in our community and the people who live in it, and I have been personally rewarded in so many ways.

The skills, knowledge and abilities to form productive working relationships gained through my work in Oak Creek, at Catamount and with our local nonprofits will be immensely valuable as Routt County treasurer and public trustee.

My financial expertise is strong. I know how to develop and maintain a fiscally responsible budget, and my accounting practices are modern, thorough and transparent. Respect for and adherence to financial statutes and generally accepted accounting standards are critical to me. Strong communication and organizational skills help me form productive teams who work effectively and make educated decisions.

I have met with the past treasurer and the county’s accounting office to expand and further my knowledge about the Treasurer’s Office. As a result of these conversations and my own studies, I see the following as important goals: 1) nurturing cooperative and productive relationships with the Finance Department, the Clerk’s Office and the Assessor’s Office; 2) assuring that activities of the Treasurer’s Office are transparent and that the taxpayers of Routt County can trust the person who is steward of their money; 3) complying with state statutes regarding foreclosures, investment strategies and all other statutory processes; 4) carefully managing the county’s investments with three goals in mind: safety, liquidity and yield; and 5) providing the best possible customer service at all times.

I will very much appreciate your support and your vote. If you have any questions, please contact me at vote4nikki@yahoo.com or 970-846-2083.
