Steamboat Springs This week, I am officially changing the name of my column from Discovering Steamboat to Exploring Steamboat.
Lisa Schlichtman's "Exploring Steamboat" column appears weekly in the Steamboat Today.

This name switch is timed with a relaunch of our Explore brand, which includes the ExploreSteamboat.com website, the Explore arts and entertainment section in Friday’s newspaper and Explore content for TV18 and our magazines.
Throughout the past few months, our team has been hard at work redesigning the Explore website to make it more user friendly and provide more comprehensive and engaging content. Our goal is to create a multimedia hub for entertainment, activities and lifestyle in Steamboat Springs where people go to find out what’s going on in the 'Boat and Routt County.
The ExploreSteamboat.com site still features the area’s most comprehensive business directory, but now it also showcases new and unique content, including a wide offering of blogs that focus on food, music, photography, parenting, modern homesteading, movies and fashion plus a happy hour listing, a detailed calendar of arts and entertainment events and more outdoor recreation feature stories. We also will add photo galleries from area events as the summer season heats up and more video segments.
In conjunction with our improved Explore website, we’ve also revamped our Explore arts and entertainment coverage in Friday’s newspaper to make the section larger and more engaging. These efforts will go hand in hand with a bolstered social media presence. Those who “like” the Explore Facebook page and follow @Explore_Stmbt on Twitter will notice an increased level of posting and tweeting activity to keep our interested readers more in touch with events as they happen.
And speaking of events, I’d like to remind readers about the recently announced Steamboat Summer of Selfies contest that the newspaper is co-sponsoring with the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association.
We invite you to take photos of yourself (a “selfie”) enjoying any of the events listed in our summer calendar and upload the photos on our Facebook page under the photo contest tab. Selfies also can be submitted by emailing them to share@SteamboatToday.com. You can follow along with all the submissions using the hashtag #SteamboatSOS.
Those who attend the most events and send in accompanying photos will be entered in a drawing for a grand prize of $100 Chamber bucks plus smaller second- and third-place prizes. We encourage our readers to send in their selfies throughout the summer, not only for the prize potential but because summers in Steamboat are fun, and you wouldn’t want to miss a single event.
I know I’m looking forward to kicking off the summer at Saturday’s Yampa River Festival and Sunday’s Steamboat Marathon. Selfies to come.
And as I near the end of my first year in Steamboat, I think changing the name of my regular column to Exploring Steamboat makes sense and allows me to continue my odyssey of experiencing more of the attractions, the festivals, the town’s history and the amazing people who call Steamboat Springs home.
