— The Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Colorado will work in conjunction with clubs across the country this week to create a new Guinness World Records entry.

The national organization hopes to set the distinction of “Most People Exercising to a Fitness Video in 24 Hours” by bringing in as many people as possible, with a goal of 28,000 participants. There are about 4,000 clubs nationwide, but not all will participate in the video, said Lynna Broyles, marketing and development director for Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Colorado.

The Steamboat Springs and Craig locations will join in on the effort. The Steamboat club will host the event at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, and Craig's activity is at 3:30 p.m. Friday.

At the event, each record attempt will begin and end with the official “Wanna Play?” fitness video within the designated 24-hour period, according to a news release. The video will be led by Boys & Girls Club Unit Director Colleen O’Gorman as well as personal trainer Becky Heath.

Craig Program Director Kari Neuman said that for the most part, the process involves 15 minutes of movement to the video, but in order to receive validation from Guinness, there are a lot of extra steps, including official registration, approved impartial witnesses and submitting a video of those contributing complete with a time stamp.

“BGC selected it as part of a healthy lifestyle and culture of wellness framework, and it’s just another way to get out the message of being physically active and incorporating it into everyday life and making it fun,” she said. “The kids are really excited about it.”

Neuman added that the activity is open to all ages.

This week also is National Boys & Girls Club Week, which runs through Saturday.
