Steamboat Springs The Steamboat Springs High School boys lacrosse team had little trouble wrapping up a successful weekend road trip on Saturday, beating Telluride, 11-3. Now the Sailors are eagerly looking forward, hoping they can learn more about their team against stiffer competition.
“We’re working really hard to focus on next week,” Steamboat coach Jay Lattimore said. “This was just a good weekend to see where we need to go to focus when we see a little tougher competition.”
The Sailors got four goals from Peter White, three from Willy Gunn and two from Ben Wharton. Steamboat got up early and didn’t allow Telluride any goals until the fourth quarter.
“We pretty much dominated the weekend,” Lattimore said about his squad, which also won 10-3 against Durango on Saturday.
Tougher tests await, starting Thursday with a trip to play at Eagle Valley. Steamboat then plays at home — finally, in the season’s sixth game — Saturday against Battle Mountain before welcoming Thompson Valley to town March 31.
