Hayden school evacuated because of smoke

— Hayden Valley Elementary School was evacuated for about 45 minutes Tuesday after someone saw smoke and pulled the fire alarm.

West Routt Fire Protection District Interim Chief Dal Leck said they were called to the school at about noon.

“There was a smell of smoke, and they saw smoke coming from one of the vents,” Leck said.

Leck said the smoke also could have been coming from a light fixture that was near the vent in the main office area.

Leck said firefighters used a device to look for heat and the source of the smoke, but they could not find the cause, and school was allowed to resume.
